The Union of 1991-1992 War Volunteers calls again on the administration of the Republic of Moldova to declare June 19 the National Day of War Volunteers. This will mobilize the patriotic education actions of the young generation, the Union’s chairman Sergiu Caracai stated in a news conference hosted by IPN.

Sergiu Caracai said the organization he heads promotes the historical truth about the tragedies experienced by the Republic of Moldova before obtaining independence and afterward among the young generation. “Many events of this kind were held on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the obtaining of independence by the Republic of Moldova and of the 30th anniversary of the start of the Nistru war. They took place in different regions of the republic and also in lyceums and libraries in Chisinau. Some of these events were broadcast by the public television channel, on radio stations and were propagated through newspapers and social media. We planned programs and activities for the whole 2022,” stated Sergiu Caracai.

The Union’s chairman said that he sent a letter to the President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu by which he asks to approve a special law on the legal status of war volunteers. “Initially, the war volunteers should be recognized by law and then we will come with a number of proposals. First, this law should be at least discussed with us,” noted Sergiu Caracai, voicing hope that such a law will be adopted.

He also said that he was invited to a meeting of the Supreme Security Council in which they discussed aspects of the legal status of war volunteers and he was later informed that the Government will work on a special law on the legal status of war volunteers.
