The UNION Political Movement requests the Central Election Commission to correctly assess the impact of the pandemic in the second half of this year, when an election campaign is to take place. It also asks to annul the collection of signatures for candidates who want to be registered as election runners, given that the collection process involves risks of infection with the novel coronavirus, and to set down rules for conducting the election campaign by which to ensure the observance of all the protection measures recommended by specialists, IPN reports.
The Movement demands not to allow shortening the voting day. On the contrary, the voting period should be extended in Moldova and in the diaspora to three days, by the model of the last presidential elections held in Romania. The number of polling places in the diaspora should be doubled and these should be supplied with a sufficient number of ballots. There should be approved electronic voting and postal voting by ensuring the security needed in the process and to prevent vote rigging.
Save Bessarabia Party president Valeriu Munteanu told a news conference that Igor Dodon, who is the right hand of Moscow, aims to be the most active competitor in the presidential elections. “The only solution for Igor Dodon to win a new term in office, in his favor and in Moscow’s favor, is to rig the elections and invalidate the people’s vote. This is not done on the election day, but during the campaign,” stated the politician.
Acting president of the Romanian People’s Party Tatiana Potîng noted the fulfillment of the requirements formulated by the UNION Political Movement would enable to adjust the general and legislative framework on the organization of elections to a minimum of international democratic standards. “The non-solving of the aforementioned issues will lead to the premeditated rigging of elections. The fraud already started, including in Moldova’s Parliament,” said Tatiana Potîng.
Contacted by IPN, CEC president Dorin Cimil said he received the letter and will make a comment when he familiarizes himself with its content.
