Union Movement: Igor Dodon wants to oblige everyone to take part in May 9 events

Representatives of the Union Political Movement said President Igor Dodon and the Party of Socialists stage an aggressive offensive against the national Romanian values in Moldova. They criticize the activities planned by the authorities to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Victory Day. The leaders of the five parties that form part of the Movement stated they will seek in court the annulment of the Government decision regarding the aforementioned planned events, IPN reports.

In a news conference, president of the Save Bessarabia Union Valeriu Munteanu said that several months after Igor Dodon named his own government, he started to propose an avalanche of poisoning initiatives against the accomplishments of the National Liberation Movement, under the guidance of the Russian Federation. The adoption on February 5 of a Government decision on the events that will be held to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Victory Day is the last extensive attack launched by Igor Dodon.

Vitalia Pavlichenko, of the National Liberal Party, noted that in an electoral year such decisions are designed to create conditions for re-promoting the one who promotes the geostrategic interests of Russia as President of the Republic of Moldova. “I would like to call on the courageous people, people with dignity from education, culture, local public administration to oppose such attempts, to find a method to support the correct, pro-European, pro-democratic, pro-national Romanian positions and approaches in this situation,” she stated.

Vasile Costiuc, who heads the Party “Democracy at Home”, said that those who are in power will force those from the local public administration to take part in the May 9 events to show this way that they are a force. The people, even if they do not support them, will obey as there is no one who could defend then. In Parliament, there are enough pro-European votes to initiate a no-confidence motion and to then appoint a pro-European government that would annul the illegal decisions.

The Movement’s representatives said that among the persons responsible for the organization of events is the president of Teleradio Moldova Company. Corina Fusu, of the Liberal Party, said this is illegal as the editorial freedom is stipulated by law. “From my viewpoint, Teleradio Moldova should come with a reaction to the Government decision by which it is obliged to produce programs and broadcast live the events that will take place on May 9,” she stated.

Contacted by IPN for a comment, senior consultant of the presidential press service Carmena Sterpu said the Presidential Office does not comment on the ordinary actions and statements of different political parties.
