The union with Romania is the only possibility for the people from the left side of the Prut River to live in a state that defends their rights, said the representative of the association “Centenarul” (“Centenary”) Ion Rata. According to him, even if the independence of the Republic of Moldova was recognized very swiftly by many states, from the signing of the independence act until now things have changed to the detriment of its independence.
In a news conference at IPN, Ion Rata said a state has a well delimited territory, but this cannot be said about the Republic of Moldova, which has Russian troops on its territory. “Theoretically, Transnistria belongs to Moldova, while de facto this territory is not under state control,” stated Ion Rata.
He noted that the spoken language is another criterion that cannot be used to characterize the Republic of Moldova as a state. ”The Declaration of Independence stipulates that our language is Romanian, while the Constitution provides that this is Moldovan. We cannot say it clearly now if we have a Romanian language or a Moldovan language,” said Iona Rata.
According to him, Moldova has not even airspace after the Chisinau Airport was conceded and no ideological space when the Russian Church promotes a concrete pro-Russia ideology, participating also in election campaigns.
“The union is the only way out for the inhabitants from the left side of the Prut to live in a state with a concrete, prosperous legislation. We need a state that would defend our rights,” concluded Ion Rata.
Veaceslav Verlan, ex-commander of the special destination group “Scorpionii”, who fought in the war for Moldova’s integrity, said the people need union now as they will feel really humans only if they unite with the motherland. “The union subject has always been considered a difficult one. Many said it is not the right moment, but we should be those who prepare the moment. This is our fate - to be united in mind. If we do not realize that we will become more powerful if the two Romanian states unite, we risk becoming a much worse state,” noted Veaceslav Verlan.
The members of the two NGOs reiterated their call to the people to come to the Great National Assembly Square in Chisinau on March 25 to take part in the Great Centenary Assembly.
