The National Agency for Competition Protection will oblige RED Union Fenosa to modify the procedures for cutting off consumers from the electric power supply. At a news conference on Tuesday, the Agency's head Viorica Carare said that Union Fenosa abused its dominant position in the market and illegally disconnected the consumers without notice, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The Agency regards Union Fenosa's actions as violation of the Law on the Protection of Competition as it did not issue a warning and did not set an additional term for the consumers with outstanding debts,” Viorica Carare said. The consumers will be disconnected only if they do not pay the bill within 30 days of the day the notice is issued. “The notice is obligatory. It guarantees the consumer's constitutional right and allows avoiding possible situations like the postman did not bring the bill, the money did not reach the destination etc.,” Viorica Carare said. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, the head of RED Union Fenosa's press office Vasile Gribincea said the power supplier did not receive a prescription from the National Agency for Competition Protection and thus cannot comment on it. The disconnected consumers must pay a tax of 140 lei to be reconnected.
