Union Fenosa insists on tougher sanctions for power theft
Union Fenosa Group in Moldova insists on amending the article of the Penal Code on power theft, with a view to toughening the sanctions for this offence. Currently, this specific theft is punished under the Penal Code only if the value of the theft exceeds MDL 10 thousand.
According to UF, the company presented to the Government several proposals on amending the Penal Code. Moreover, the power supplier asks for the help of the citizens of Moldova in finding the persons who steal electricity. The company argues the need for involving the citizens in finding the thieves by the fact that such thefts represent fiscal fraud, because by not paying the consumption of energy, they do not pay the taxes included in the invoices, taxes which would contribute to the economic and social development of Moldova. These persons are also guilty of the fact that the tariff for power is not smaller than the present one. “The value of the losses are higher if the tariff is higher”, a press release of the Spanish group reads.
UF asks to inform about cases of fraudulent use of power by calling on 43-11-11 or by means of the e-mail address: corrupt@ufmoldova.com.
2427 reports on fraudulent use of energy totalling MDL 15 mln were filed in 2006.
