Members of the National Council of the Union of 1991, together with representatives of different institutions and organizations of Moldova, Romania and Italy, on February 29 signed the declaration on the constitution of the Union Council. The Council will carry our activities to sensitize society and to promote unionist ideas, Info-Prim Neo reports. The chairman of the National Liberal Party Vitalia Pavlichenko, who is a member of the Council, said the idea of creating such an organization appeared in 2010. The Romanian authorities support the union idea, but the people living on the left bank of the Prut must prove that they want this. Among the actions that the members of the Council intend to carry out are the organization of the Union Congress in Iasi in May and the collection of signatures in support of Moldova’s union with Romania. “We will work out a program and will go to every settlement of Moldova to convince the people that the Moldovan and Romanian lands should unite,” said Timotei Turcanu, a member of the Council. The members of the Union Council also said that the union with Romania is the most efficient method of Europeanizing Moldova. They consider that the integration into the EU is an unachievable objective for the independent Moldova.
