Schools in Moldova are increasingly prepared to include children with special needs. Data from a study conducted by UNICEF shows that the level of tolerance of education staff towards children with special needs increased to 94% in 2024, compared to 88% in 2012. At the same time, 84% of children are tolerant of children with special needs, 10% more than in 2012, IPN reports.
UNICEF says that progress has been made in areas such as methodical training of teachers, provision of additional staff, technical conditions and tolerant attitude towards children with special needs.
Extra staffing has increased from 35% in 2012 to 60% in 2024.
The technical conditions necessary for the inclusion of children with special needs were 46% ensured in 2024, compared to 10% in 2012.
The study "Inclusion of children with special educational needs in the education system 2024" was conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of Moldova, within the framework of the Program "Digital Innovations of the Education System in the Republic of Moldova", funded by the Global Partnership for Education.
