The construction of the Ungheni – Chisinau gas pipeline will be completed in December 2019. The technical project will be designed by this August. Investments are expected to total €113 million, Minister of Economy Octavian Calmac stated in public debates centering on the headway and challenges in implementing the legislation in the energy sector staged in Parliament, IPN reports.
According to the minister, the Ungheni – Chisinau gas pipeline will be declared facility of national interest so as to simplify the procedures for expropriating the plots that will be crossed by the pipeline and for obtaining certificates and other necessary documents.
The Ministry of Economy proposes two possibilities of interconnecting the electrical energy systems of Moldova and Romania. Asynchronous interconnection can be ensured in two-three years at a cost of about €230 million, while the synchronous interconnection can last for minimum 15 years and will imply major investments in the power plants of Ukraine.
Attending the event, Romania’s Ambassador in Chisinau Daniel Ionita reasserted the constant support provided by the Romanian Government for strategic energy interconnection projects, including in extending the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline up to Chisinau and transforming this into a really consistent project. “We realize that both political will and reciprocal commitment are further needed for promoting the given projects, especially as regards the identification of technical solutions and adoption of bills needed to make the finalization of this project possible,” stated the diplomat.
The representatives of the Energy Community encouraged the authorities to continue implementing reforms in the energy sector, noting that the legislation adjusted to the Community acquis will bring benefits to the people. The officials said the reforms done now by the authorities have a faster pace and are much more profound. The Energy Community is ready to offer assistance to the Moldovan institutions in their efforts to modernize the energy regulation framework.
