UNFPA donated three mobile intensive care ambulances for newborns

The National Center for Prehospital Emergency Medical Assistance has been equipped with three type C ambulances for transporting newborns. They are equipped with high-performance mobile intensive care medical devices, which allow for the safe transfer of critically ill babies to medical institutions for specialized care, IPN reports.

Each ambulance is equipped with a transport incubator, a neonatal artificial respiration ventilator, a monitor to measure vital functions, an emergency aspirator for newborns, a defibrillator, a laryngoscope, an emergency medical kit, etc. They operate as an autonomous power supply system, guaranteeing uninterrupted operation.

The medical vehicles are donated by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and were purchased with the financial support of the Government of the United States of America.

The donation, worth more than 8 million lei, is a significant step in strengthening the resilience of the health system in the Republic of Moldova in the context of the increased demand for emergency medical services as a result of the refugee crisis.

At the donation event, Health Minister Ala Nemerenco said that the state is constantly investing in maternal and child health in order to ensure quality health care. According to her, in the last three years, with UNFPA support, 12 perinatal centers have been modernized nationwide.

At the event, UNFPA also donated a set of medical mannequins to the National Center for Emergency Prespital Medical Assistance and the Balti Clinical Hospital. The donation, worth more than 800 thousand lei, aims to improve the practical training of health professionals, including students, residents and medical staff with secondary education, in the field of sexual and reproductive health.
