Unfinished project leaves Stauceni without water amid torrid weather

Residents of the Stauceni commune, part of Chisinau municipality, including the local kindergarten din not have running water for two days, due to a renovation project of the main water system that was abandoned. For the same reason, the commune’s road became sewers, stated Stauceni Mayor Vasile Sitnic during a meeting of the capital’s City Hall, reports Info-Prim Neo. According to Mayor Vasile Sitnic the roads have been sewers for more than a year, because of a firm that installed a water-pipe from to water pool to the center of the locality and did not finish the job. “We have been struggling with it for one year. For all this time we have been in sewers, and representatives of the firm told us that, maybe, starting September they will continue their work. But residents are also at loss because of this situation. Thus, last week, water supply was stopped for two days, including to the kindergarten”, said the Mayor. In the same context, Vasile Sitnic visited the water pool to see what the problem was. A pipe that burst in two places was found, which needs urgent attention, and for this reason there is no guarantee that the residents of Stauceni will have water during this week. In the same context, deputy technical director of “Apa-Canal Chisinau” Vitalie Midari stated that there is no risk for the water supply to be stopped, and that the previous stop occurred because of the used-up pipes. Additionally, he mentioned that “Apa-Canal Chisinau” overtook all problems and debts from the old utility, and currently the pipe systems are being repaired, in order to avoid future failures. Meanwhile, head of the capital Constructions Division Roman Sofroni said that road building works have ceased due to modifications to the main water-pipe system. Sofroni added that the works will have been finalized by September 1; until then, however, they must re-coordinate the project changes, after which the roads will be built. Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca apologized to the residents of Stauceni for the inconveniences caused and specified that most of the capital’s districts are currently undergoing such works. “We are not children, and we realize that without these works we can’t talk about modernizing the capital. If we would like to mock our people and practice populism, we would lay a tier of asphalt and move on, but I don’t think it is right. Thus, we go step by step and basically turn over the entire city and some localities from the municipality”, added the Mayor.
