Both internal and external circumstances are currently unfavorable for achieving visa liberalization with the EU until the end of this year as the authorities have promised, thinks Eugen Revenco, acting director of the Foreign Policy Association. He told a news conference on Tuesday that there are a number of internal problems, in particular those related to the cooperation between the Government and Parliament, the poor quality of some laws and, more importantly, the defective implementation of laws. Concerning the external situation, Revenco expressed his concerns about the negative attitudes of some EU member countries like the Netherlands. At the same time, Victor Chirila, foreign policy adviser to PM Vlad Filat, noted that the progress report recently published by the European Commission has shown a number of positive steps in the implementation of the visa liberalization action plan. He stated that Moldova needs to adopt nine more laws according to the plan, six of which have been already been submitted to Parliament. According to Chirila, Moldova will achieve visa liberalization “in the foreseeable future”. Moldova launched talks on visa liberalization with the European Union in 2010 and adopted an action plan in January last year.
