Unexpected situation leads to postponement of CMC meeting
The meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) scheduled for February 1 did not take place. Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca said the meeting was put off owing to an unexpected situation that happened five minutes before the announced hour, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“There are a number of reasons, but I do not want to tell them now. It is evident that 2013 is not an easy year and this week has been unsuccessful too. I assume this situation and apologize to my colleagues. I presume they will be dissatisfied, especially the Communist councilors. I found out something right before the meeting, but I ask for discretion. We want things in the future to calm down so that we have a majority and opposition and work in more equitable conditions during the next two years and a half,” said Dorin Chirtoaca.
He made it clear that there appeared disagreements as regards the creation of the Democratic Alliance in the CMC. “There are 16 councilors of the PL, seven councilors of the PLDM, one councilor of the PDM and two independent councilmen, Teodor Carnat and Piotr Dontov. I cannot give you other details as discussions are being held with these councilors and the factions,” said the mayor.
Communist councilor Valentin Todercan said that the members of the PL and PLDM didn’t come to the meeting because they hold negotiations behind the scenes. This points to lack of transparency, while the CMC meetings take place with serious deviations from the legislation.
Teo Carnat asked that the factions of the CMC should see the lists of candidates for deputy mayors. “I came here to vote the budget in the first reading. I regret that my colleagues put emphasis on posts. We must choose the deputy mayors, but we don’t know them. It should be a transparent process,” he stated.
The meeting was to take place on January 31, but was postponed to February 1. A new date hasn’t been announced.
