Licensed agricultural producers, farmers' associations and representatives of the business community from Cantemir, Criuleni, Hâncești, Leova and Ungheni districts are encouraged to apply for funding to build rainwater accumulation basins. Non-reimbursable financial support of up to $ 30,000 is provided by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Austrian Development Agency.
In order to receive funding, applicants have to exploit the agricultural land located in places that offer the best conditions for capturing rainfall water and to ensure a 20% co-financing of the investment offered, a UNDP Moldova statement said.
Another eligibility condition involves that the land proposed to be irrigated from the water storage basins should have a worthiness score of over 50.
Between 2019 - 2022, 15 rainwater harvesting basins will be created in the five mentioned districts and five local fire stations will be rehabilitated and endowed with the necessary technical equipment in the preselected localities, the press release says.
