The national Under 17 football team of Moldova closed the first qualifying round of the European Championship with a sensational victory. They beat the team of Armenia 4-0, IPN reports.
However, this result didn’t allow Moldova to rank second in the group because Italy and Iceland tied 1-1 the other match. Even so, the team trained by Vadim Bores still has chances to qualify for the Elite Round as five teams ranked third in the qualifying round also go through to the next round. These teams will become known at the end of October, after all the matches in the 13 groups are played.
In the encounter with Armenia, Moldova scored the four goals in the last six minutes. Andrei Marandici managed two score two goals, while Ivan Voropai and Maxim Cojocaru scored by one goal. In the first half, Ion Ibrean missed a penalty for Moldova.
“The beginning of the match wasn’t easy. I’m grateful to my players for the effort they made at the end of the game. It is a good team. They are players with character,” coach Vadim Boret told a news conference.
Italy finished first in the group with seven pints, by two more than Iceland and by three more than Moldova. Armenia scored no point.
