Unauthorized use of Olympic symbols to be punished
The National Olympic Committee (NOC) is worried by the unauthorized use of Olympic symbols by companies and mass media sources, which violates the Olympic Charter, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to a press release of the NOC, this summer’s Olympics led to a rise in the number of unauthorized use of Olympic symbols. According to the Olympic Charter, the Olympic Games are the exclusive property of the International Olympic Committee, which owns all rights and data relating thereto, in particular, and without limitation, all rights relating to their organization, exploitation, broadcasting, recording, representation, reproduction, access and dissemination in any form and by any means or mechanism whatsoever, whether now existing or developed in the future.
Besides, according to the Olympic Charter, all the attributes like the Olympic symbol, flag, motto, anthem, identifications, designations, emblems, flame and torches are collectively or individually referred to as “Olympic properties”. All rights to any and all Olympic properties, as well as all rights to the use thereof, belong exclusively to the IOC, including but not limited to the use for any profit-making, commercial or advertising purposes.
The Moldovan NOC, responsible for respecting the intellectual property of IOC, insists and demands that IOC’s exclusive rights are respected and its symbols aren’t used without authorization.
If NOC finds that companies infringe on IOC’s exclusive rights under any form, NOC reserves the right to sue them and demand reparations.
