UN General Assembly adopts resolution proposed by Moldova

The UN General Assembly adopted by consensus a resolution proposed by the Republic of Moldova on cooperation between the United Nations and the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM. The resolution provides a formal cooperation framework between the UN and GUAM, which will govern the interaction between the two organizations in the immediate period, IPN reports.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova, in the introductive speech Victor Moraru, Moldova’s Standing Representative to the UN, said the resolution proposed by the Republic of Moldova, as the acting chair of GUAM, aims to establish a formal cooperation framework between the two organizations.

The GUAM chairmanship is held by rotation, usually annually, from summit to summit. In 2017, Georgia held the acting presidency of the GUAM and Moldova took over in 2018. Ukraine will hold the chairmanship in 2019.
