Ukrainians in Chisinau meet at poetry soiree

During the Days of Slavonic Writing and Culture in Moldova, the Ukrainian community in Chisinau held a Ukrainian poetry soiree, Info-Prim Neo reports. The 17th cultural event took place at the Ukrainian library “Lesea Ukrainka”. Persons that like to read and recite poems in Ukrainian attended the party. There were recited poems by such classical Ukrainian writers as Taras Shevchenko, Lina Kostenko, Lesea Ukrainka as well as new verses. “We are very proud that we have Ukrainian literature in Moldova,” said Galina Rogovaia, president of the Ukrainian Cultural Association “Prosvita”. Pensioner Valentina Svaritinskaia said that he has participated in the soiree since its inception. “This year, I will recite a poem written by my father while he served at the front in 1944. I love this poem very much,” she said. Valentina Zubcenco, Russian language teacher at “Petru Movila” High School in Chisinau, made her debut at the soiree with several poems for children written in Ukrainian. “I’m glad that we have such a holiday that unites the Slavonic nation,” the teacher said. As the music accompanies every Ukrainian holiday, members of the Ukrainian song group “Veselka” sang and danced at the end of the soiree. The Days of Slavonic Writing and Culture in Moldova have been held between May 21 and 26. They have been organized since 1990.
