The Ukrainian refugees and the households that host them will receive parcels with Easter presents that are distributed by the Initiative “Moldova for Peace” in cooperation with the UN Refugee Agency, UNHCR Moldova. “The persons, through the platform “Moldova for Peace”, informed about their needs of food or hygiene products ahead of Easter,” representatives of UNHCR Moldova have told IPN.
The presents were put into 3,000 parcels intended for three and four-member families. This way, the Easter gifs will get to 10,000 refugees representing 10-12% of the community of Ukrainian refugees in the Republic of Moldova.
UNHCR Moldova calls on the local communities and civil society to offer support to the Ukrainian refugees, on the occasion of the Easter holidays as well.
“On Easter, we encourage the local community and civil society to help the refugees, to promote social cohesion and to offer additional support to the persons from Ukraine who found refuge in Moldova. Local communities from a number of villages and towns, including Congaz, Chirsova, Chisinau, stage different events on the occasion of the Easter holidays. NGOs also offer presents,” said the representatives of UNHCR Moldova.
There are over 90,000 Ukrainian refugees in the Republic of Moldova at present.
