Ukrainian Prime Minister resigns

The Government of Ukraine has resigned. After holding consultations with MPs of the Supreme Rada, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk announced in Parliament that he tenders his resignation as the parliamentary coalition was destroyed and the governmental initiatives are blocked, IPN reports.

According to the news agency Ukrinform, Arseniy Yatsenyuk explained that the destruction of the coalition entailed the resignation of the Premier or the creation of a new coalition. The second variant could not be accepted by the party Batkivshchyna (“Fatherland”), of which he forms part, as that coalition would have included ex-Communist MPs and MPs of the Party of Regions.

The leaders of the parties “UDAR” and “Svoboda” announced that they withdraw from the parliamentary coalition in the Supreme Rada in a move to cause the dissolution of the legislature and the announcement of early legislative elections.
