The press reported earlier that the MP Oleg Bilorus said the two heads of state, Dmitri Medvedev and Viktor Yanukovych, discussed the dismemberment of Moldova behind closed doors. Speaking about the Russian-Ukrainian statement signed on May 17, the head of the Ukrainian committee for European integration Boris Tarasiuk said it was a favorable document that can promote the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict. The MPs said Ukraine is ready to play an active role in the 5+2 format talks and help identify a viable solution to the Transnistrian dispute, by observing the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova. For his part, Victor Osipov thanked the Ukrainian authorities for their efforts to help solve the Transnistrian dispute. He stressed the importance of strengthening the strategic partnership and cooperation relations between the two neighboring states for ensuring peace and security in the region and achieving the European integration aspirations.
