Ukrainian MPs welcome statement signed by Medvedev and Yanukovych on May 17

The Russian-Ukrainian statement contains a series of provisions that can stimulate the efforts aimed at settling the Transnistrian dispute, Ukrainian officials assured Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Victor Osipov during consultations in Kiev, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communique from the Reintegration Office. The head of the Ukrainian foreign policy committee Oleg Bilorus denied having made the statements disseminated by the mass media, saying they are the product of the journalists' imagination. The press reported earlier that the MP Oleg Bilorus said the two heads of state, Dmitri Medvedev and Viktor Yanukovych, discussed the dismemberment of Moldova behind closed doors. Speaking about the Russian-Ukrainian statement signed on May 17, the head of the Ukrainian committee for European integration Boris Tarasiuk said it was a favorable document that can promote the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict. The MPs said Ukraine is ready to play an active role in the 5+2 format talks and help identify a viable solution to the Transnistrian dispute, by observing the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova. For his part, Victor Osipov thanked the Ukrainian authorities for their efforts to help solve the Transnistrian dispute. He stressed the importance of strengthening the strategic partnership and cooperation relations between the two neighboring states for ensuring peace and security in the region and achieving the European integration aspirations.
