The Chisinau-Odessa train will travel through the Transnistrian region from today, October 1. The train set off from the Chisinau Railway Station at 7.00. Among the passengers was Ukraine's Ambassador to Chisinau Serghii Pyrozhkov, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to Premier Vlad Filat, who took part in the ceremony to open the Chisinau-Odessa train route, this is a significant date as the given route was resumed after a pause of four years. The Prime Minister said steps are being taken to resume the movement of freight trains to Ukraine via Transnistria. Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Victor Osipov said the trains are a symbol of stability as one can check the watch by them. “I think this is only the beginning and I want to thank the officials of the Ministry of Transport and Transnistria's Railways for their effort. We have yet a lot to do to restore freight train routes via the Transnistrian region,” said Osipov. Ambassador Serghii Pyrozhkov said he was very glad to be among the passengers of the first Chisinau-Odessa train, half a year after the renewal of the Chisinau-Kiev flight. “Today's event is designed to strengthen the bilateral Moldovan-Ukrainian relations,” he said. Serghii Pyrozhkov will travel until Tighina and paid 12.40 lei for the ticket. The passengers complained to the Premier that the price of a trip from Chisinau to Cuchurgan is lower than US$2, while of a trip from Cuchurgan to Odessa is much higher. They also said there should be set up stations in more settlements. The price of a ticket for the Chisinau-Odessa train is 101 lei. Bought at least 24 hours beforehand, it costs 53 lei. The train leaves daily at 7.00 and reaches Odessa at 12.00. From Odessa, it sets off at 15.30 and gets to Chisinau at 20.50. The Moldovan trains stopped traveling through Transnistria in 2006.
