The band “Kalush Orchestra” of Ukraine has won the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 with the song “Stefania”. This gained the maximum score of 631 points, of which 439 came from the public, IPN reports.
The UK ranked second, being followed by Spain, Sweden, Serbia, Italy.
Moldova’s representatives, the band “Zdob și Zdub” and the orchestra of the Advahov Brothers, finished seventh with 253 points - 14 points from the jury and 239 points from the public - with the song “Little Train” performed both in Romanian and English. The Moldovan jury offered 12 points to Ukraine.
After performing, the lead singer of the Ukrainian group Oleg Psiuk made a pleading for Mariupol and for the saving of the fighters at the Azovstal iron and steel works.
The next edition of the Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Kyiv. Ukraine made its debut at this contest in 2003 with the song “Hasta la Vista”.
