Ukraine will provide diesel oil to Moldova to help it overcome drought consequences

Ukraine will offer 1,000 tonnes of diesel oil to Moldova to mitigate the effects of this year’s severe drought. At the meeting of the Government Commission for Emergencies, Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev said that the Government of Ukraine decided to allocate to Moldova non-reimbursable aid worth 6.2 mln USD. At Moldova’s request, the aid will consist of diesel oil to the mentioned value. The 4 mln USD aid offered by the Russian gas company Gazprom to Moldova will go to purchase diesel oil too. Tarlev says that this money was recently transferred to the special account of the agriculture risk fund. After buying diesel oil and storing the quantities imported from Ukraine, there will be worked out regulations and a mechanism for distributing the fuel to farmers, in coordination with Moldova’s development partners.
