Ukraine will establish two polling places for the May 25 early presidential elections. The places will work from 8am until 8pm. The voters will choose between 21 candidates, IPN reports.
Ukrainian Ambassador in Chisinau Serhii Pyrozhkov told a news conference that a polling place will be opened at the Embassy of Ukraine situated at 17 Vasile Lupu St, while the second at the Ukrainian Consulate in Balti located at 143 Kiev St.
There are over 56,000 Ukrainian citizens in Moldova, 90% of whom live in the Transnistrian region. The ambassador said that under the Ukrainian legislation, poling places outside the country can be established only at embassies, consulates and military units. As Ukraine does not have an embassy or a consulate in Transnistria, the Ukrainians from this region will be able to vote on the right bank of the Nistru.
To be able to cast their ballots, the voters must have the Ukrainian passport with them.
The electoral authority of Ukraine authorized over 2,000 observers from a number of states, including from international organizations, to monitor the elections. Some of the CIS states didn’t delegate observes. “For us, it is very important that the elections be validated,” stated Serhii Pyrozhkov.

The polling place in Chisinau is intended for Ukrainian citizens from Chisinau municipality, the Autonomous Territorial Unit Gagauzia, Tiraspol, Bender and Dnestrovsc towns, and the districts Anenii Noi, Basarabeasca, Grigoriopol, Dubasari, Cahul, Calarasi, Cantemir, Causeni, Criuleni, Leova, Nisporeni, Orhei, Slobozia, Straseni, Taraclia, Ungheni, Hancesti, Stefan-Voda, Cimislia, and Ialoveni.
The consulate in Balti is designed for Ukrainians from Balti municipality and the districts Briceni, Glodeni, Donduseni, Drochia, Edinet, Camenca, Ocnita, Rezina, Rybnitsa, Rascani, Sangerei, Soroca, Telenesti, Falesi, Floresti, and Soldanesti.
