Ukraine temporarily pulls military observers from Transnistria peacekeeping mission

Ukraine is temporarily repatriating its military observers serving in the Joint Peacekeeping Force in Moldova’s Security Zone, in connection with the war in the home country, the Ukrainian Embassy announced in a formal letter.

Meanwhile, the Joint Control Commission attempted to resume discussions on the current situation in the Security Zone. But, according to the Moldovan delegation, Tiraspol’s representatives undermined the attempt by trying to divert the discussions into “political disputes”. The meeting was therefore postponed on the proposal of the Russian side.

Set up in 1992, the Joint Peacekeeping Force is composed of Russian, Moldovan, Ukrainian and Tiraspol’s military contingents.
