Ukraine denies that Russians from Transnistria are stopped at border

The Embassy of Ukraine in Chisinau issued a statement denying the information that Russian citizens from the Transnistrian region and units of transport conveying products for the Russian peacekeepers from Transnistria are stopped at the Moldovan-Ukrainian border.

The Embassy says this information, which was made public by Russian officials or representatives of Transnistria and disseminated by the media, is aimed at discrediting Ukraine as a participant in the Transnistrian conflict settlement talks, IPN reports.

The Ukrainian Customs Service informed that the number of people who were banned from entering Ukraine didn’t increase compared with the previous period.

The Embassy of Ukraine notes that in the last meetings of the Joint Control Commission, of March 12 and 13, nobody informed about cases when vehicles transporting goods for peacekeepers were stopped. Also, Ukraine wasn’t asked to provide explanations about this by official ways.

Russian officials’ assertions that 200,000 Russians from Transnistria cannot move freely through the border segment with Ukraine are described as deceiving and designed to worsen the regional situation and to mislead the people.

On March 20, the government of Russia plans to discuss the situation of the Russians from the Transnistrian region in the context of the regional problems.
