Ukraine considers Yushchenko Plan should be reconsidered
The political dialogue between Chisinau and Tiraspol must go on because it is better than ultimatums, the secretary of the Supreme Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Raisa Bogatyreva said at a meeting with the Transnistrian leader Igor Smirnov held in Tiraspol on November 4, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Ukraine, as a a guarantor state in the negotiation process, believes that the Yushchenko Plan proposed by the President of Ukraine in 2005 must be reconsidered, Raisa Bogatyreva said.
The documents specifies seven steps that Transnistria must take to obtain a special status within a reunified Moldova. The plan says that Transnistria could become independent if Moldova wanted to unite with another state.
In this connection, Igor Smirnov said the Transnistrians in 2006 took part in a referendum and said they do not want Transnistria to become part of Moldova. In the negotiations with Moldova, the Transnistrian authorities expresses the will of the people, he added.
