The difficult social-economic situation in the Transnistrian region, created by self-isolation, can be overcome by accepting the European course proposed to the Moldovans from both banks of the Nistru River. The suggestion was made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, which called on the participants in the 5+2 talks to refrain from taking steps that would destabilize the situation, IPN reports.
In a press statement, the Ministry expresses its concern about the appeal to Russia by the so-called Transnistrian supreme soviet to recognize the independence of Transnistria. It notes that by such a request Tiraspol questions the principle of peaceful resolution of the Transnistrian conflict.
Ukraine reiterates is position that the territorial integrity of the country must be preserved and that a special status should be granted to the Transnistrian region within Moldova.
