United Kingdom Ambassador to Moldova Keith Shannon expressed his confidence that the Moldovan Olympic team, in particular the boxers and the martial arts athletes, will perform well at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, wishing them luck at a Tuesday ceremony held to accept the invitation from the International Olympic Committee. “Today the official invitation was signed by the National Olympic Committee (NOC) and this is a guarantee that Moldova will participate in the most impressive show of the year”, said the Ambassador. NOC president Nicolae Juravschi stated that the acceptance of the Olympic invitation inspired hope for the Moldovan team, but also obliged the Moldovan athletes to do their best to represent our country. “This will be the sixth Olympic Games we are participating in. So far we had good results. We won several Olympic medals and Moldova always ranked above the 70th spot out of more than 200 participating nations. Now we have 7 athletes qualified for the Games, but we hope someday we'll have 20 or 25 qualified athletes”. Juravschi also said that the NOC was fund-raising for the Olympic team and urged private companies to contribute, considering the meager budget offered by the state. On this occasion, the NOC launched the promotional campaign “Together for London”.
