U21 team fails to qualify for quarterfinals of CIS Cup

The national U21 team of Moldova didn’t manage to qualify for the quarterfinals of the CIS Cup. They also drew (1-1) the last match of the group against Latvia, being outstripped by Kyrgyzstan, which beat Russia 2-1, IPN reports.

Moldova ranked third in the group and would have qualified if it had scored at least one victory because the best two teams from the third position also qualified. “The match against Latvia was the most difficult. I want to congratulate this team on their game,” said the coach of the U21 team Igor Ursachi.

Moldova was led after the break following the goal scored by Eduards Tidenbergs, but it tied towards the end of the game through the Dacia striker Alexandru Bejan. On January 22, Moldova meets Estonia in an encounter where they will compete for the 9th-12th positions. In the previous CIS Cup, Moldova finished tenth.
