U-21 Tricolors make it to CIS Cup quarter-finals
The under-21 Moldovan football team qualified for the quarter-finals of the Commonwealth of Independent States and Baltic Countries Cup. On Sunday, January 22, the Moldovans bested Kyrgyzstan 2-1 in the last match of the qualifying stage, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Mihai Platica and Ion Jardan netted from corner kicks in the last 20 minutes of the game and earned a victory for Moldova.
”Luck was on our side today, as we have lacked it in recent matches”, Moldova U-21s' coach Alexandru Curteian declared after the match.
In the other match of the group, Latvia succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Ukraine, who topped the group table. Moldova finished second thanks to a better goal difference than Latvia.
The draw for the quarter-finals will take place on Monday, January 23.
The 20th edition of the CIS Cup gathered for the first time 12 national youth teams.
