A boy aged two from Chisinau suffered a serious injury when he put his hand in the working washing machine. Though the door of the washing machine is blocked during the wash, this time the machine probably malfunctioned. The child was admitted to the Intensive Care Section of the Chisinau Children’s Hospital “Valentin Ignatenco”.
Contacted by IPN, Veaceslav Plamadeala, head of the Emergency Admissions Section, said the boy was operated and several parts of the hand were restored. Most probably, he will undergo one more operation.
Specialists urge the adults to pay increased attention to the children when these are near domestic appliances, especially when these work. The children should not be left alone near working stoves, washing machines, microwave ovens, etc. The heavy objects such as the TV sets or cupboards must be fixed firmly. The area where the children are must be safe, with the access to the balcony, stairs and cellars being blocked.
More information about how to protect the child is available at www.parinti.md and can be also found out by following the information campaigns centering on the prevention of accidents involving children carried out within the REPEMOL (Regionalization of Pediatric Emergency and Intensive Care Service in Moldova) Project that is financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and implemented by the Foundation of the Center for Health Policies and Services.
