Two-year-old found drowned in orchard

A child aged two from Măcăreşti village of Ungheni district was found drowned in a flooded domestic orchard in the evening of July 6. The mother, who was raising him alone, got worried after not seeing him. She went to look for him and found him dead.

“The case was reported to the police and a police team was at the scene immediately. The village is situated near a meadow that was flooded by the Prut River,” Roman Rusu, district police officer of the Ungheni Police Inspectorate, has told IPN.

The Inspectorate’s press officer Cristina Vicol said that when on the spot, the police stated the child’s death. This was the only child in the family and lived only with his mother. The father lives in the same village, but in another house.

No signs of violence were found on the body. “A medical examination will be performed to find out the exact cause of death,” stated Cristina Vicol.
