A two-yearpold boy in Cubolta village, Sangerei district, suffered 1st and 2nd degree burns after falling on a hot stove above which he slept. The child was hospitalized in the intensive care ward of the Balti Municipal Clinic Hospital, where he was treated. He is now in the surgery ward. Head of the emergency section Ala Condrea told Info-Prim Neo that if the parents had been more careful, the boy wouldn’t have suffered these burns on his back, buttocks, thighs and legs. According to the doctors, the parents put the boy to sleep above the stove. When he awoke, he moved towards his mother and fell on the hot stove. Doctors advise parents to be more careful during the cold period, when children are almost always at home. “It’s not recommended for the stove to be in the same room where children stay, because from curiosity they may touch it or a hot coal. Children mustn’t be left without supervision even for a second”, she said. Ala Condrea added that in such situations, the parents must remove the child’s clothes if they aren’t stuck to the skin, place him under a jet of water and call the ambulance. The parents say they were used to leaving the child above the stove where he played, and never thought he could fall on the stove. When the misfortune happened, only the mother was in the room. The child awoke, saw her and wanted to move towards her, but fell. “I took him in a second, undressed him and put him under a jet of cool water. It’s a harsh lesson for me. I’ll never leave my child above the stove again”, said the woman. In Moldova, at least 6 children under 5 years of age become victims of domestic accidents and weekly one dies as a result of such accidents. Doctors recommend the parents to keep an eye on the children at all times, to ensure safety measures in the house, to remove all possible dangers and so on.
