A girl of almost two was rushed to the hospital in a serious condition after she fell from the ninth floor of an apartment building located in Chisinau. Elena Sauga, vice director of the Municipal Children’s Hospital”V. Ignatenco”, has told IPN that the girl suffered multiple injuries and has been operated, but it’s a miracle that she survived.
The incident happened in the evening of May 27. Left without supervision, the child climbed onto the window frame, pushed the mosquito net and fell off. The girl was found by neighbors, who alerted the parents and doctors. Fortunately, she fell on land, not asphalt.
Elena Sauga said the mosquito nets are very dangerous as the children think they are stable and lean on them. This is the second case of fall from height through the window with mosquito net so far this year. A similar incident happened in Balti. A child aged three fell from the third floor and sustained serious injures.
According to the National Health Management Center, 2,900 children aged between 0 and 5 sustained injuries in Moldova last year. Sixty of them died. A study carried out within the project “Regionalization of the pediatric emergency and intensive care services in Moldova” (REPEMOL), 66% of the parents realize the risk of their children being hurt in home accidents.
