The complications of the AH1N1 virus took the lives of two women aged 44 and 52. Stela Gheorghita, vice director of the National Public Health Center, has told IPN that in both of the cases the women saw a doctor too late, being in a serious state already.
The 44-year-old woman from Chisinau municipality had the first symptoms on March 5. She went to the family doctor in five days. She was immediately admitted to the Infectious Diseases Hospital “Toma Ciorba” and was then transferred to the intensive care section of the National Clinical Hospital. She was diagnosed with lung sepsis and the presence of the AH1N1 virus turned out to be lethal for her.
The other woman, from Hancesti, felt sick on February 17 and treated herself at home for a period. Afterward, she went to the Hancesti District Hospital for examinations and was hospitalized. Her state of health didn’t improve and on March 1 she was transferred to the National Clinical Hospital. On March 20 she died. “The woman was diagnosed with acute bilateral pneumonia and pulmonary edema. The disease developed rather swiftly and even if the she didn’t suffer from chronic diseases, the pulmonary edema worsened her state,” stated Stela Gheorghita.
In both of the cases, the presence of the AH1N1 virus was confirmed while the women were alive. The two were connected to ventilators, but doctors’ efforts didn’t produce results.
According to the Ministry of Health, the morbidity by respiratory infections and flu fell by 23.4% compared with a week before.
Fifteen persons died from complications associated with flu so far this year.
