Two wards for difficult deliveries renovated at Mother and Child Center
Two wards of the premature births and difficult deliveries sections of the Chisinau-based National Scientific Institute “Mother and Child Center” have been repaired and outfitted with new furniture and modern equipment, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The renovation was possible owing to the support provided by the international charity movement Rotary that has worked in Moldova for 12 years and for over 100 years at international level. Three Rotary clubs from Moldova and six from France contributed to the equipment and repair works.
“French osteopathic doctor Alain Daujon, who is a member of the Doctors Without Borders movement and of a Rotary club in France, has visited Moldova for many years. He was shocked by the conditions in which the women infected with hepatitis, tuberculosis and sexually transmitted diseases gave birth and decided to initiate the repair of at least two wards,” Aurelia Bogdanas, Moldova’s representative to the France-Romania-Moldova Rotary Committee, has told Info-Prim Neo.
Aurelia Bogdanas said that the wards were in a disastrous condition before repair. “We bought delivery tables and other necessary equipment and changed the doors and windows. The project was devised two years ago, but we managed to complete it this year. The repair works lasted for less than a month,” she stated.
The Rotary movement in France made the largest contribution. “The project cost US$70,000. The Moldovan clubs contributed much lower sums. The hospital’s administration and the authorities did not contribute at all. There are many maternity wards in need of repair, but we succeeded in renovating and outfitting only these two,” said Aurelia Bogdanas.
The movement Rotary is apolitical, independent from the Church and aims to defend the human rights. According to Aurelia Bogdanas, Rotary Moldova implemented a number of projects in orphanages and old people’s homes. It also bought boilers for several maternity hospitals. Though it provides assistance to institutions, last year Rotary Moldova offered a scholarship to a Moldovan young woman who wanted to study at the university, but did not have financial resources.
