Two train routes canceled by CFM due to financial difficulties

The train routes Chisinau – Bender-3 and Balti-Slobozia – Rogojeni will be canceled starting January 12. According to the Railway of Moldova (CFM), the cancellations are due to the company's severe financial difficulties, which no longer allow the operation of suburban train services, IPN reports.

According to a CFM announcement, train service NR 604/603 Chisinau – Bender-3 will be canceled, effective for departures from Chisinau starting January 12, and for departures from Bender-3 starting January 13.

Similarly, the Balti-Slobozia – Rogojeni train service will also be canceled: for departures from Balti-Slobozia starting January 12 and for departures from Rogojeni starting January 13.

On August 20, the National Confederation of Trade Unions (CNSM) requested Prime Minister Dorin Recean's intervention to address the issue of unpaid wages at CFM. According to the organization, more than 5,300 employees of the state enterprise have not received their salaries since April, with some workers unpaid since March of the previous year. The total unpaid wage bill has reached 136 million lei.

In August, government spokesperson Daniel Voda stated that the administration of the Railway of Moldova, in collaboration with the executive branch, was seeking solutions to address the wage arrears within the company. Vodă noted that "optimizations" were also being considered as part of the potential measures.
