Two girls, 12 and 14, from the village of Lopatnic, Edinet, drowned in the river of the same name, a tributary to Nistru. The accident occurred on Saturday. The villagers recovered a body the same day and on Sunday, after several hours of searches, divers retrieved the second.

Three girls, including two siblings, went for a bath to the river, but only two of them actually went in. After the two didn’t surface, the younger sibling got scared and didn’t tell the parents until hours later.

From the beginning of the year, over 40 people, including 10 children, drowned across Moldova.
