Two students from Moldova electrocuted in Iasi

Two Moldovan of 17 and 18 studying in Romania’s Iasi were electrocuted while they were taking pictures on a stationary railcar. The teens were taken to the Children’s Hospital “Saint Maria” with burns by a Smurd team. Smurd Iasi chief doctor Diana Cimpoesu said the girls suffered burns by electrocution, IPN reports, quoting the website of the paper “Ziarul de Iasi” www.ziaruldeiasi.ro

The 17-year-old girl received minor first- and second-degree burns on 10% of the body and was admitted to the Iasi hospital. Her friend aged 18 sustained burns on 50% of the body and was taken by helicopter to the Burns Hospital in Bucharest. However, she could not be saved.

The girls got electrocuted by an electric arc of 27,000 volts. The 18-year-old girl started to burn, while the other girl was thrown to the ground. A passerby mounted the railcar and extinguished the burning clothes of the girl.

According to the Romanian Railways, the high-voltage line is not dangerous when the people travel on ground. When up, the voltage of 27,000 is so powerful that an electric arc appears even if the cable is not touched.
