Two recidivists face a maximum of 12 years in jail for robbing a monastery in Nicoreni village of Drochia district at the start of this April. The investigation was completed and the case was sent to court, IPN reports, quoting the Prosecutor General’s Office.
One of the robbers entered the monastery through the window and stole religious objects. In three days, he returned with a friend of his, who was released from detention before time that day. They entered the monastery’s church again through the window and took silver and golden jewels to the value of over 1 million lei donated by parishioners.
The individuals were arrested the same day at the Soroca bus station and they had the stolen things on them. These were returned to the monastery.
The men are aged 45 and are from Fălești and Orhei districts. They were earlier convicted of similar thefts. They signed blame acceptance agreements.
The two face 7 to 12 years in jail for robbery.
