One conscript soldier got 4 years and 3 months in jail and another one was sentenced to 4 years' probation after stealing two rifles from a deposit, IPN reports.
The military prosecutors found that in December 2013 one of the soldiers, while doing guard duty at an ammunition depot in the Balti-based Mechanized Infantry Brigade no.1, broke into the storage facility and stole two AK-74 rifles. Then he gave one rifle to another serviceman, who helped him take the weapons out of the military base. The two were arrested one month later.
In investigating the case, the military prosecutors also examined the conduct of the military superiors in charge at the military base in question. As a result, the head of the ammunition depot was charged with unlawful inaction in the line of duty.
