Two sets of furniture for playing chess intended for amateurs were placed in the square between the National Theater “Mihai Eminesu” and the Organ Hall. The urban furniture was inaugurated by the commercial bank Mobiasbanca-Groupe Société Générale with the support of the Chisinau City Hall, IPN reports.
Each of the two sets of furniture consists of a table with two chairs that are lit at night with photovoltaic solar panel. The head of the bank’s Administration Board Ridha Tekaia said that Mobiasbanca-Groupe Société Générale initiated the installation of the furniture for amateurs to play chess, including late at night, as the benches in the square are inconvenient for this. “These actions are in correlation with all the projects of Mobiasbanca to protect the environment and to become involved in community life,” he stated.
Attending the event, Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca thanked the bank for its initiative. “It would be good to have such furniture everywhere, especially because it can be used at night too. This is a small initiative with a great impact. Chess is what we need. If the moves are well planned, life is better organized,” he stated, noting that this game is promoted in the city and large chess broads were set up in the parks of Chisinau.
The first moves on the new chess boards were made by Ridha Tekaia and Dorin Chirtoaca. Afterward, chess amateurs could compete with professionals within blitz games.
The furniture intended for chess amateurs was made in Moldova.
Mobiasbanca was the sponsor of the children’s chess tournament “In Memory of V. Cebanenco-2016” that was held on March 11-12. Then the bank offered a number of chess sets to the Chisinau-based school No 86 that hosts the Specialized Sports School No.7.
