The conditions of study at the secondary school in Pelinia village of Drochia district were improved. The building was renovated, with its roof being replaced and its façade being repaired. There was placed paving. The works cost US$75,000 that was allocated by the Government of Japan through the Kusanone Program – Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects. Within the framework of the same program, the secondary school in Domulgeni village of Florești district got over US$48,000 in grant funding for modernization works. There, the eatery was fully repaired and the kitchen was outfitted with the necessary equipment, IPN reports.

In the ceremony to complete the two projects that was held online, the Ambassador of Japan to Moldova Katayama Yoshihiro said the two projects were finished successfully. The money allocated for the modernization works come from the taxes paid by the citizens of Japan. This donation should be regarded as a sign of friendship from the people of Japan.

Katayama Yoshihiro noted that each year they receive a lot of applications to provide similar support. The applications are accepted and assistance is approved only after the donors convince themselves that there is a real need and only when the proposal is formulated by a team of responsible people.

“A philosopher said that not the walls make a school, but the spirits in it. That’s why I would like this extraordinary investment of the Japanese people to have an intellectual, moral, professional and social impact on our graduates, teachers and parents. We thank the people of Japan,” stated Ion Băbălău, principal of the Pelinia secondary school.

The principal of the secondary school in Domulgeni Maria Vetricean thanked for the assistance provided to the education institution, saying that this benefitted first of all the students, teachers and parents. She invited the Japanese diplomat to go and taste the food prepared in the school’s kitchen when the pandemic is over.

A new grant contract as part of the Kusanone Program was signed in today’s event. This is the seventh in the Japanese fiscal year 2020. The contract for the renovation of paving on an area of about 2,500 square meters at Kindergarten No. 225, to the value of US$ 89,727, was signed with the Ciocana Division of Education, Youth and Sport. This is the largest kindergarten in Ciocana district and is attended by about 800 children.
