Two polling places for Ukrainian parliamentary elections to be opened in Moldova

Two polling places for the October 26 legislative elections of Ukraine will be set up in Moldova. The Ukrainian citizens who live in or are on a visit to Moldova will be able to cast their ballots in Chisinau and in Balti, Ukrainian Ambassador to Moldova Serhii Pirozhkov said in a news conference.

A polling place will be established inside the Ukrainian Consulate in Balti, while the second inside the Embassy of Ukraine in Chisinau. “The Ukrainians living in the northern districts of Moldova and in two districts of Transnistria – Camenca and Rybnitsa - will vote at the polling place in Balti. The other voters can come to the polling place in Chisinau,” stated the ambassador.

According to Serhii Pirozhkov, there are about 70,000 citizens of Ukraine with the right to vote in Moldova. 90% of them live in the Transnistrian region. About 1,000 Ukrainians voted in the Ukrainian presidential elections of this May.

The diplomat noted that no polling places will be set up in Crimea and in the Ukrainian regions controlled by the pro-Russian separatists.

A number of 500 members of the Supreme Rada of Ukraine are to be elected on October 26.
