Two policemen suspected of passive corruption
Two policemen suspected of passive corruption have bee arrested in a joint operation by the Anti-Corruption Center and the Ministry of Interior. The investigators also check the complicity of other colleagues of the arrested, employed by the Rascani district police commissariat, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to press release by the Anti-Corruption Center, the policemen were caught in the act. According to the information the investigators got, a man probed for hooliganism was to pay $3,800 to a policeman to persuade him to cease the criminal proceedings against him. The money was meant for a number of employees by the commissariat.
Before starting the probe, the Anti-Corruption experts filmed as the money was given to a policeman. After taking the money, the officer left his office and was soon halted by the Anti-Corruption police.
The suspect had fluorescent dust used to mark banknotes on his hands, as well as his accomplice.
If found guilty, the two policemen may be asked to pay a fine of up to 100,000 lei each or stay in jail from 5 to 10 years.
