Two inspectors of the Criminal Police Division within the Ciocana Police Commissariat have been sentenced to 6 and 7 years in jail. They also received fines of 40,000 lei and 30,000 lei, in addition to 3 year and 2 year bans from law enforcement jobs, IPN reports.
According to prosecutors, in 2010, the duo visited a drug user at home and extorted 10,000 lei from him, threatening to tell his parents and employees that they caught him doing drugs.
A year later, one of the inspectors was part of a group investigating the theft of a smartphone in a disco and extorted 800 euros from the suspect in exchange for not charging the person with theft.
The sentences can be appealed.
