Two police chiefs caught taking bribe
The deputy head of the Murders and Serious Crimes Division of the Chisinau General Police Commissariat’s Criminal Police Department and the Department’s deputy head were arrested for asking for US$10,000 bribe. The arrest was made by officers of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office and the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime, Info-Prim Neo has learned from the Prosecutor General’s Office.
On May 14, the prosecutors officially charged the two with passive corruption.
According to the prosecutors, on May 9 the two police officers asked for US$50,000 from two foreigners for not holding them accountable for trafficking in human beings. When the foreigners refused to pay, the policemen reduced the sum to US$10,000.
On May 9, the officers received the first tranche of US$2,200, while on May 11 they were arrested. They are now in the remand unit of the Anticorruption Center and will be under arrest for 30 days.
