The Constitutional Court ruled unconstitutional the amendment to the Tax Code that allowed redirecting 2% of individuals' income tax to non-commercial organizations of public good and religious institutions. The Court's examination of the amendment was requested by the Liberal Party, IPN reports.
The Liberals complained that the amendment to the fiscal and budget policy lacked the approval of the government and that no sources had been identified to compensate the local authorities for the financial losses to be incurred.
According to PL, due to various amendments to the Tax Code, 40 million lei from the taxes of wage-earners had been used for the election campaigns of some parties through loyal NGOs.
The ruling of the Constitutional Court is irreversible and cannot be appealed.
